LINCOLNSHIRE

Japanese Floral Art

Ikebana is the general word for flower arrangement in Japan. The Ikenobo school is the longest running Ikebana school in the world.  It was founded by the Buddhist monk "Ikenobo Senno" who made floral offerings at the altar of Rokkaku Temple in Kyoto, Japan,  where the headquarter of the school is still in based.  The oldest manuscripts written about Ikebana from the year 1486 by him are found at Ikenobo Headquarter. This art is focused on finding the balance and essence of the materials used in such a way that they are displayed to their utmost beauty and perfection.
